THE QUALITY OF PAST EXPERIENCES.
The roots of Architecture Direct go back to 1975 when Gary
Turpening, Architect and Planner, left the big firms and opened Susquehanna
Design Studio in Mechanicsburg,
PA. In the Harrisburg market, with some projects in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas, SDS
provided design and planning services to restaurant chains, government,
churches, and the general public. A great deal of work in those years was
historical restoration and adaptation.
After serving as a Senior Architect at 3M in St Paul, Mr.
Turpening re-opened the firm as Energy Architecture, and later named
Architecture Studios (a Minnesota Corporation), which remains the parent
company of Architecture Direct.

Architecture Direct offers full design services to the architecture
and engineering community and to the general public. We embrace the computer
age with a twist: all drafting and office functions are done on the computer
workstations BUT most sketching is done with the old sketch pencils.
Presentations are a combination, with hand sketches and computer images
rendered in water color and waxed colored pencils.

EXPERIENCE

Architecture Direct projects are extremely varied but the
central theme is the same- thoroughly researched designs carried out with
professional guidance. When viewing the images please remember that this work
was done in the past- any good architect tries to make his next project his
best. Gary Turpening is a graduate of Ohio State University in Architecture (the Beaux
Arts Program) and Sociology. He is registered in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. His qualifications are certified by
the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
